A Great Review!

Barrie Wilson and I worked for six years on our book, “The Lost Gospel: Decoding the Ancient Text that Reveals Jesus’ Marriage to Mary the Magdalene”. Basically, we deciphered a 1,600 year old manuscript in the British Library and had it translated, for the first time, into English from its original Syriac (Christian Aramaic). Although for weeks the book was the number one history book on Amazon, academic reviewers stayed away. It was too much. People like their Dan Brown as fiction, not reality. It was too hard to deal with the revelations that Jesus was married that, like Jezebel before her, Mary the Magdalene was a Phoenician priestess, that they had children together and that they were political players in the Galilee of the first century. But now…at last…the prestigious Journal of Jewish Identities (Issue 8, Number 1, January 2015) has come out with a stunning review by Richard A. Freund, Maurice Greenberg Professor of Jewish History, University of Hartford. After some very thoughtful criticisms, this is how he concludes his remarks:

“[The book is] a page turner and has everything to do with how ancient religious identity and debate was conducted. Jacobovici and Wilson have achieved a tour-de-force…by unraveling in meticulous detail this parallel version of the life of the first century Jew, Jesus, and his wife, Mary the Magdalene that rivals any of the other discoveries of lost gospels found in the desert of Egypt in 1945.”

I think it will take decades for the historical Jesus to emerge from the shadows, but it’s nice to get an acknowledgment such as this in the here and now.
