Biblical scoop: Delilah Revealed!

As I write this, my new series “Lost Faces of the Bible” called “Biblical Forensics: Real Faces of the Bible” in Canada is airing on Vision Television in Canada (Mondays at 9pm EST, http://www.visiontv.ca/2013/04/08/biblical-forensics-a-new-series-bringing-biblical-faces-back-to-life/) and on National Geographic stations around the world. The first episode deals with the Philistines. The most famous Philistines of all time are the Biblical Delilah and Goliath. Goliath is the giant who fights King David and Delilah is the woman who seduces and betrays the Israelite Samson.

In this episode of “Lost Faces of the Bible”, an extremely rare archaeological discovery has put a 3000-year-old female skull into the hands of our forensic team. The skull dates to the Iron Age, the time of the Biblical strongman, Samson, and his treacherous lover, Delilah. Our team of archaeologists, scholars and forensic anthropologists gather the evidence in order to provide our forensic artists with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reconstruct the face of a Philistine woman.

It may surprise many people but the Philistines were not Middle Eastern, they were an Aegean people i.e., from the area of modern Greece. They probably looked like Minoans or Mycenaeans. Their foothold in the Middle East ran along the coast of modern day Israel. So this lady may not be Delilah, but she lived in the right place and at the same time as Delilah. It’s the closest we’re ever going to get to the Biblical seductress. Forget Hollywood, this is probably what she looked like: (show pic that’s attached)

If you’re in Canada, tune into Vision tonight for the new episode.
