My Debut as an Adjunct Professor

My “debut” as an adjunct Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at Huntington University in Sudbury, Ontario was an incredible experience. The screening of “The Resurrection Tomb Mystery/The Jesus Discovery” made front page news in the Sudbury Star. We had an overwhelming turnout and had to switch movie theaters to accommodate the overflow crowd. I was deeply honoured to be introduced by Dr. Kevin McCormick, the President of the University, and by Alison Hood, the Department Chair. The energy in the room was electric and the atmosphere was extremely positive before and after the screening.

Together with Dr. Janis Goldie, Chair of the Communications Studies Department, we have already begun to develop the curriculum for a minor in Religion and Media. More than this, Huntington has now become an official sponsor of the Bethsaida dig in Galilee, headed by Professor Rami Arav of the University of Nebraska. I have been appointed as co-director on the dig, representing Huntington and have already met with the first group of students who will travel from northern Ontario to Israel to take part in the dig in the spring/summer of 2013. I have put my wife Nicole on notice that we will be having lots of students over for Shabbat dinner!

I believe Huntington will be blazing a new trail in religious studies. Watch for our university.
