We Won!
Later today – Tuesday, October 21, 2014 – at the Château Laurier in Ottawa, Canada, the Canadian Medical Association will be handing out its 2014 Media Awards for Health Reporting. We are pleased to announce that “Tales From The Organ Trade” has won the prestigious Norman Bethune Award for Excellence in International Health Reporting.
Director/Producer Ric Esther Bienstock will be on hand to accept this tremendous award. She will be representing fellow Producer Felix Golubev and myself, who are unable to attend.
This award is especially meaningful coming from the Canadian Medical Association. The film, which humanizes the organ trade by revealing the nuances of the problem, is forcing doctors and lawmakers to rethink the ethics of the issues. “Tales From the Organ Trade” which has already won 14 international awards and garnered two Emmy nominations recently screened for the Global Bioethics Initiative in New York. It was also screened in the Danish Parliament by lawmakers weighing the issues involved in the buying and selling of kidneys. The Norman Bethune Award is one more example of the impact the film is having worldwide.
Congratulations to everyone who worked on the film. Given the stature of this event, I want to especially congratulate Associate Producer Peter Feldman, whose idea it was to make a film on the subject, and our other Associate Producer legal maven Randi Kirshenbaum.
